We are happy to announce that YogaMoves is now sponsoring Riaz:

YOGA MOVES – offers a deep dynamic flowing sequence of yoga postures fused with movements of pencak silat (Indonesian martial arts).
This practice allows the individual to explore boundless potential, harmony, play-fulness and connect with the self (inner voice). A class maybe very dynamic flow one week and then more alignment and breath based the next.
YOGA MOVES – is made up of approximately 36 postures, 25 minutes.  A continuous flow of postures with Indonesian Gamelan music.

MASSAGE THERAPY:

It has huge benefits, after a few sessions a person should feel relaxed, clarity, lightness, calmness, deep sleep, reduced muscle tension, increased blood flow and focus etc.

Riaz will get all the above, this should contribute in his daily life as a student and more so as a martial artist.

As a student: his work rate, focus with a steady mind will produce high quality work especially during exam times.

As a martial artist: his body will go thorough many changes and experiences during training and the intensity of sparring/fighting. The massage and yoga will help him keep balanced.

On December the 9th 2012, Zaina (Riaz's younger sister) finally earned her Black Belt Dan grade.

Joe Anderson, John King and 3 other judges said she did extremely well and deserved to pass on the day.

Well done Zaina!!!

Over the 1st weekend of December 2012, Riaz Amin entered his first stick fighting competition run by the WEKAF (World Escrima-Kalis-Arnis Federation).

The results are:

Riaz Amin - Cadet Fighter of the night award and Cadets single stick British Champion - Gold!!

Irfan Al Faradhi - Bronze - Cadets single Stick.

British Double Stick Team Champions - All events won - No losses - Gold!!

The Team are: Yasin Islam, Irfan Al Faradhi and Rohim Ali

Overall, our cadets dominated the night.

We also had four senior novice fighters, all fighting some very experienced martial artists. It was the first stick fighting competition for everyone who competed. Considering, we only trained a month for the competition, we did great!!!

A warm thank you for our teachers Abjol, Shamim, Andy, the whole Kalis squad, Kay and Zaina for photos and Iqbal for filming and Dave for major corner support on the day.

Well done TEAM: KALIS ILUSTRISIMO / Filipino Martial Arts Academy

Riaz Amin – Team Kalis Ilustrisimo

Riaz entered the WEKAF – World Escrima-Kali-Arnis Federation British Championships on the 2nd of December 2012 held in Rainham, under the Kalis Ilustrisimo banner.

On the day, Riaz was entered into the Cadets 1 Stick competition alongside 3 others from his own club and many under 16’s from the leading UK Escrima clubs including the famous Doce Pares Organisation. Riaz and fellow team mates had only trained for about six weeks for the competition and Riaz only took up the Filipino Martial Arts at the beginning of spring 2012. They knew they were the underdogs on the day, the newbie’s. Nevertheless, they were going to have a go.

It didn’t take long for the first bout to be announced, Riaz had the first fight of the day. Warmed up and padded up with his armour, he was ready for battle. All eyes were on the first match, both fighters eager to let loose.

“Fight”

3 rounds later, Riaz defeated his first opponent and found his feet. The second match was no walk over but secured. For the Semi’s, he faced one of his fellow team mates. His team mate was a lot bigger than him, but Riaz had the edge on him with speed and his skill set to his advantage. Riaz worked out his tactics early and managed to pull another win out the bag.

Now facing a fierce contender in the final, Riaz had no time to rest on his laurels. The cadet he was fighting was a veteran in the sport and had been to many competitions. It was a fast, a very skilled match up with Riaz throwing out his best combos to secure Gold. His stamina, skills and footwork also earned him the Cadet’s fighter of the day trophie.

His team mate got bronze on the day as well as the Kalis Ilustrisimo Cadets team winning the gold in the team battle. Overall, a very good day for the cadet’s team and Riaz.
